North Shore Line 2-Car Train, Illinois Railway Museum

A two-car North Shore line train, resplendent in green, cream and red, pulls out from the main depot at the Illinois Railway Museum. In their day (pre-1963), these interurban trains would take you from downtown Chicago to downtown Milwaukee in 90 minutes flat during the rush hour over CTA and North Shore tracks. Try THAT on I-94. One of the North Shore Line’s famous Electroliners sits in a shed, awaiting funding to get it in condition to run. (The paint is already done, and it’s beautiful.)

Is there an S-scale model railroad club in northern Illinois?

Question by rocketman0739: Is there an S-scale model railroad club in northern Illinois?
I live in the western suburbs of Chicago and am considering going into S-scale (American Flyer scale) model railroading. However, it would be nice if I didn’t have to start by diving in and building a layout in my garage–if I could join a club and run trains on their layout, or just have people to talk to and troubleshoot and things. Thanks!

Here you go! S-scale has always looked like a neat gauge to model but so far I have just stuck with my HO stuff (mostly because I just have so much of it). All the best with the club, they look like they know their stuff when it comes to S-scale.

Are there any Model Railroaders out there that collect MTH Illinois Central passenger trains?

Question by Roy L: Are there any Model Railroaders out there that collect MTH Illinois Central passenger trains?
I collect “O” Gauge MTH Illinois Central Cars and engines. I presently have a set of ABA E6’s and E8’s. and a full consist for each engine set.

I also have a Rail King RS2 and about 20 cars of various road names.

Has anyone had quality issues with their MTH Engines? I have had the E6’s and E8’s in the shop at MTH.
