Will the electric fence my family just bought stop my dog from running away?

Question by Mr. Teehee: Will the electric fence my family just bought stop my dog from running away?
My dog Deacon has been escaping our yard and running free ever since we got him back in October. We finally had enough of it last week and we bought an electric fence. We only have the shock on level 2, but I don’t think that will hold him. I don’t want to turn it up to level 3, because…… that would hurt (I tested it 😛 ). Do any of you guys know for certain that an electric fence will stop Deacon from running away 100%?

Nope, but I do know that’s animal abuse. Get a fence or a rope or chain or something, jerk!

the new addams family; uncle fester’s illness part1

Fester was powering Gomez’ trains and everything else in the house and he overloads himself. He becomes de-volted. The family does what they can to try to help get Fester’s power back, including jump starting him, calling in Sparky’s electrical, the electric chair, electric eels, and a lightning rod. When none of that works, they take Fester to the hospital.

Jackson Family N-Scale Model Train Layout

This layout was based on a Woodland Scenics kit and done by our family when our sons were about 13 and 17, about ten years ago. It is 3′ x 6′ in size. The kit contains many of the materials to do the basic landscape and scenes. Ours did not contain the buildings, track, people, vehicles, and additional landscaping materials. Since we made this layout there have been many changes in model railroading. Lighter weight materials for the base, such as insulation foam, and I’d probably use laser cut buildings over plastic because they are not only easier to paint and construct, they tend to look more realistic and detailed. Newer style trees can also give a layout a better look. Anyway you look at it, making a home layout takes a lot of time, patience and money to complete the job. Fortunately we were able to work together as a family and make something that made us all proud.

Spending Quality Family Time With Toy Train Sets

If you want to spend some time as a family, one of the best ways to do it is with toy model train sets. There is a difference though with toy trains, and not all of them are ‘toys.’ there are many different styles of trains, and they come in a variety of sizes, or scales of trains. If you have smaller children, you can purchase toy train sets that are made from wood, or hardened plastic, and are completely manual. You and your kids can set up a number of different layouts, and push the little train cars around the tracks.

There are also model trains sets that are crafted to resemble the real thing. Many of these sets are also ideal for family play, and some common scales are G, O, and HO. G scales are large and can easily be handled by smaller children, but while there are many different kinds of layout designs, these trains are large, and take up a lot of room. You usually see this sized train sets in abundance around Christmas time, and are a great addition under any tree. Some of these are electric, but many battery operated models are quite safe for smaller kids.

Model trains have been popular for well over a hundred years, and were first made from wood, in Europe, and had pull strings for kids to drag them along. It seems that toy trains have developed just as fast and unique as their real life counterparts. They are now made by several different companies, with Lionel, Hornby, and Bachmann being among the tops brands.

The nice part about newer models of toy train sets is the fact that they are relatively easy to put together. They come with simple snap together track systems, color coordinated wiring, and you can have them up and running to play with your family in just about an hour, depending on the layout. These Ready To Run sets come with everything you need to get started, track, train, and power supply, and are fun for the whole family.

Now while you can buy just about any kind of train set for your family to enjoy, there are some things to note when enjoying family time with your toy model train sets. Even the wood sets have some small parts included, and precautions should be taken when letting your smaller kids play with them. Scale model trains, ones that have electric power, should only be used under adult supervision.

You can buy toy model train sets just about anywhere. You can buy them from toy stores, hobby shops and mass marketing merchandisers. If you want to most variety, the best place to start is online. The costs for some of these are quite reasonable, and some sets are under fifty dollars. Serious train sets start at around 0, but there are some that are well above that.

So if you want a great way to spend quality time with your family, why not consider buying a toy train set. There are classic models to choose from, especially around the holidays. If you aren’t sure if this is the kind of hobby you and your family can get into, there are many websites you can use for checking out if this sort of thing is in your future.

are we the only family where the toys are considered?

Question by desmeran: are we the only family where the toys are considered?
community property rather than belonging to one sibling only?

out of our gazillions of stuffed animals each kid has one that is their “special animal” and the other kids have to surrender it if it’s desired by the owner, but other than that, we don’t designate whose stuff is whose. If they got it for a birthday present or something it might be similar in that the birthday child gets first dibs on it for a few weeks, but pretty soon those become community property, too. even at christmas most toys are labeled like “for the scientists” or “for the artists” or “for kids who love trains” rather than being given to one particular child.

How does it work in your family? Do you think it really matters one way or the other? I’ve heard people on here allege that not letting a child have his or her “own” stuff is somehow psychologically damaging, but i’ve got to say that none of my kids seem to be taking any damage thus far, plus we just avoid fights over who owns what…. Should any of them one day express a strong desire that something be solely their own, I suppose I’d consider it, especially if it was purchased with their own money or a present to them,. but the kids have never in almost 10 years even raised that issue (except for non-toy things like journals).
amber, yes they do have to ask when using my things, but my spouse doesn’t, and i see that as more similar. at any rate, it’s not that i’m forcing them to share their stuff … it’s just that we never designated toys as belonging to one kid or another in the first place….

Just clarifying … of course I’m also interested in different opinions or practices, including yours, or I wouldn’t have asked. And this is a very silly kind of question to be thumbs-downing answers on….
lol, i pay for quite a darn lot that belongs to the whole group….
we have one ipod and it sits in a … whatdoyoucallit ihome or something …. in the basement so the kids can put songs on it for their dance parties. thankfully we’re not at a point where the kids have an interest in plugging earphones into the ipod and tuning out. they still want everyone to listen along with them. i’m sure we’ll be there someday. but not yet.

Ours will be community property as soon our youngest is old enough to play w/ his big brothers and stop putting everything in his mouth.
