We want to buy a train set for under our christmas tree and I noticed the are listed under “scale” what does this mean? Does it refer to size? If so what size range would be appropriate for under a tree?

‘Scale’ (or ‘gauge’) refers to what fraction of actual size the model is. It depends on the size of your tree and how much room you have, but the most common choices are O-scale, which is the size of Lionel trains, or HO-scale (“half O”), which is the next-smaller common size.
