I’m in need of a vintage Lionel expert to estimate the worth of my train.?

Question by Doug: I’m in need of a vintage Lionel expert to estimate the worth of my train.?
I have a vintage metal Lionel train set that I believe to be from the 1950’s and I’d like to know how much worth it has.
I have the entire set. It includes 1 “peacock” #10 engine in running condition, re-wired in the 80’s. 3 cars # 341 (observation) 339 (coach), and 332 (Rail-mail). All the cars and the engine have very minor nicks and scratches and brass oxidation but are capable of being used. I also have the original box that came with the set. The box is in relatively poor condition but the original printing is still there and looks great. And to top it all off I have the original instruction page, slightly torn, wrinkled, and yellowed, but readable. I hope that’s enough to base an estimate off. Thank you for your help 🙂

How do I find out the worth of a Vintage Lionel Train Set?

Saturday, November 3rd, 2012

Question by Got Answers?: How do I find out the worth of a Vintage Lionel Train Set?
I found in my (now deceased) fathers garage a complete Lionel Train Set. Says Die Cast Steam Locomotive. There is a model number of 1492. Also has a Tender that says Jersey Central Lines, Gondola w/canisters, Box Car that reads Erie Lockawana EL 9043, Hopper Red CN, Flat Car w/logs and a caboose.

Also on box says Gauge 27; what does that mean?

Purchased sometime between 1970 and 1973. I have not put together yet, but plan to this week to see if it still runs. The instructions are chewed up…..looks like a mouse used it to make a bed in the box. LOL!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

How much is this Vintage Lionel Train set worth?

Question by Bromandudeguy: How much is this Vintage Lionel Train set worth?
I came across a post war, Lionel train set.
It’s condition is about a 5 to 6 out of 10, but it runs and works fine.
All the track and cars are here, as well as some extra scenery stuff.

I believe it is a #2028 set?

I picked it up for 100 dollars and figured if anything it’s pretty neat.

What do you think or know this set in it’s current condition is worth? And should I invest in fixing it up at all?
It has a regular black locomotive and then a bunch of other cars you would normally, see, the set it pretty big actually. And I guess the 2028 is just one car out of the lot, but there is more!

I don’t know but why don’t you get it valued it might be worth your while. And i have heard they are worth more if you have the original boxes. I don’t know if your UK but if yes we have a programme called the Antiques Road Show

They value things people have had in their families for years. If you could take it to somewhere like this if its worth quite a bit it may be worth it Good Luck

Is old, used cork worth saving?

Saturday, October 13th, 2012

Question by trainboy765: Is old, used cork worth saving?
I have a significant amount of cork from two previous model railroads I had. Some of it is about 15 years old, the rest is around 30. Both have been sitting in boxes for about the past 5 years and will probably stay in boxes for at least another 5 to 10.

Is this stuff at all worth saving, or should I just throw it out and buy new cork when I go to make my next layout?

Is this Lionel train worth anything?

Saturday, October 13th, 2012

Question by thisisonlyatest: Is this Lionel train worth anything?
Ok, so I have an Lionel train in HO scale that was my father’s (so circa 1950’s) it’s a frieght train, not the kind that makes smoke. If it had it’s rubber bands changed, it would still run and the light still works.

it has the frieght train, one passenger car and 2 cargo cars. Also it’s orginal tracks and control. (I’m not looking to sell it, but a friend of mine said it’s not worth anything because it’s HO, even if it is lionel.)

What do you think?

Your friend is mistaken. Contact a local model railroad club and go from there. If you’re not sure, don’t invest a lot of money. I suggest buying a couple model railroading magazines for about $ 10 – $ 14, and go from there. A basic set goes for about $ 100.My wife and I work on the layout together, she does the buildings and I do the ground work.

Tuesday, September 11th, 2012

Question by brendanbilbo1212112: How much is this model train worth?
I found a model train earlier today and it looks like it could be worth something… But I’m not sure. I have the case with it and on the cover of the case it says: BIG RUGGED Lionel Trains Classic Series Series 1. On the inside it says Atchison, Topeka, & Santa Fe Super Chief F3. If anyone know if this is worth anything please let me know! Thanks

Answer by Christian Carey
well that series is worth about20 dollars per model. It also depends on the condition. Hope this helped!
