Question by brian s: How to hook up Lionel O Gauge to zw transformer?
i have those easy connect clips for the track. its lionel o gauge and a zw transformer. there are 2 connectors that clip onto the track. do i use one or both for one track with one train? any other tips ive tried everything but it seems like the circuit breaker keeps going off. the tracks are connected and all seem fairly tight.

First of all, is it postwar or O Modern? There’s some differences between the postwar and modern ZW.

If it’s postwar, you need to have both connectors on, one attached to one of the ports (A, B, C or D) and the other connector directly on the ‘U’ port below it.

If it’s an O modern, try looking up the instructions on Lionel’s website.

Question by colts_rock_1: how do you hook lionel pennsylvania flyer train tracks up to the transformer where you control it .?
i lost the directions i have the cord to connect the two but i dont know how

Best answer:

Answer by Dilbert
It should be obvious from the cord. Does it any bare wires, or just connectors? If it just has connectors, they aren’t likely to fit the wrong way, so you just connect them whatever way they fit, and it should work fine. If it has any bare wires, there should be screw terminals or post terminals for them. You just loosen those, wrap the bare end of the wire, and tighten. You’re really not likely to get it wrong, so just try it, how it looks like it ought to go, and see if it works.

Is a model railroad transformer dangerous for kids?

Friday, July 20th, 2012

Question by Albert: Is a model railroad transformer dangerous for kids?
I just got a ready-to run train set from MTH.
It comes with a 100 watt transformer. It comes in 4 pieces:
AC wall plug—>Controller—>Banana Plugs—>Track Connector
I’m not concerned with the wall adapter as it simply powers the controller. My concern is with the banana plugs that go to the track connector.
What if my son or daughter disconnect these and put them in their mouth? Spill water on the connector? What if they put their tongue on track? (they are really young)
Should I be concerned with an electric shock, or is the output for model trains to low to harm people?
This is an O gauge set.
It is much bigger than the HO and better suited for the kids.

Its probably been made not to give a shock ,but just test it yourself with either an electrical screwdriver or give it a lick.

A transformer is used to convert 120 V to 15.7 V in order to power a toy electric train.?

Question by : A transformer is used to convert 120 V to 15.7 V in order to power a toy electric train.?
If there are 214 turns in the primary, how many turns should there be in the secondary?

Best answer:

Answer by Mohasa
use V1/V2 = n1/n2

where V1 = 120 V, V2 = 15.7 V, and n1 = 214 turns

so n2 = n1 V2/V1

…… = 214*15.7/120

n2 = 28 turns, number of turns in the secondary

Hope this helps

If there are 300 turns in the primary coil, how many turns shoud there be in the secondary coil?

Best answer:

Answer by Callum F
You need to work with the fact that Voltage Out/Voltage In = Turns in 2nd coil/turns in 1st coil.

Using that, you can sub in the numbers to get:

6/120 = x/300

Rearrange to find x, which is the number of turns in the secondary coil

Question by : A model electric train requires 4 V to operate. If the primary coil of its transformer has 300 windings, how m?

A model electric train requires 4 V to operate. If the primary coil of its transformer has 240 windings, how many windings should the secondary have if the primary is connected to a 120 V household circuit?

Best answer:

Answer by rex
N / 240 = 4 / 120

N = 8

That is the number of turns needed for the secondary.
