What safety measures do I need to take when disposing of dead animals found on my land?

Monday, March 4th, 2013

Question by Edd S: What safety measures do I need to take when disposing of dead animals found on my land?
I work for a company and we frequently find dead fox’s and other wild animals dead when they have been hit by a train or electrocuted. We have to bag these and dispose of these ourselves – what controls should we have in place to protect our staff? I know risk assess – but if you have some pointers this would be helpful.

Wear long handled surgical gloves and wash your hands/arms afterwards. If you get to them soon enough they don’t smell bad or aren’t that messy, but after a few days it can be pretty gross.

However, since they were probably healthy before they got hit by a train/electric wire, etc, most of the things (microbes and etc) that live in those dead animals are naturally all around us all the time, they are in the dirt, they are on your skin before you ever touched the animal. They moved inside the animal once the white blood cell count dropped because the heart stopped beating, but they aren’t going to move inside you. You’ve been exposed them already, and they can’t hurt a healthy human. (If you have cancer/HIV/pregnant/running a fever/open wounds/etc, then you aren’t healthy, and should avoid it.) If you were picked up animals that died of weird illnesses that you didn’t understand, (if you find a flock of dead chickens with no signs of trauma, for instance,) you’ll want to wear a full body suit and a self contained breathing system…

How much training should it take to run 3 miles?

Sunday, February 10th, 2013

Question by g_saiyaman2099: How much training should it take to run 3 miles?
I was a Marine from 2004-2008, where we would run almost every day, anywhere from 3 to 10 miles. The problem is, when I got out, I stopped running. Started and finished college, and want to work back to getting in shape. I can run that far right now, so I am currently running on a treadmill in the house til I build my stamina back up, and, yesterday being my first day unning again, I only could run a 1/2 mile. 1 thing I did notice though is that the running was definatley a faster pace as well, but I want to get back to the 3 mile point so that I can run outside again. Thank you in advance. This is pretty much my opportunity to get back in shape while being unemployed and looking for a job, so All advice is welcome. Also, I am on a healthy “diet” as in changing what I eat for the better, not a crash diet, and just trying to get into an overall better shape. I am 6’1″ tall, 227.2 lbs, with about 22.2% bodyfat from what my scale wih the electric current thing tells me.

How long did it take you to become decent at guitar? Should I get a tutor?

Question by SVNA_S3VEN: How long did it take you to become decent at guitar? Should I get a tutor?
I accidentally hit delete instead of edit

Just starting playing electric guitar a few weeks ago, and want to know how long it took you to get the hang of it.

Also, think it would be best to get a tutor?

Best answer:

Answer by Johnny
Don’t get a tutor. I don’t actually remember how long it took me to get “good” at guitar, It just kinda happens on its own over time. I do remember being able to play a few songs in the first week I picked one up though. I was self taught(not by choice, no money for lessons) and I don’t regret it. At the time I wanted a tutor but I wouldn’t change that now. when you learn on your own I think you develop a better ear for things. Learn some basic chords and start practicing.

Question by Angel2008: How many of you are crazy about trains? you know take pictures and collect stuff? ?
What got you started and how old were you when you started?

What do you collect?

I got started back when I was 3 years old. My dad would take me out quite often to see the Amtrak train run through town. I can’t really describe what it is about trains that I love, just that it’s big machines moving America. And railroads are an ingenious, yet simple concept.

I mainly take pictures, about 5,000 photos to date. Not many compared to many railfans.

Is Melissa and Doug Railway set compatible with Take Along Thomas and Friends trains?

Friday, June 29th, 2012

Question by : Is Melissa and Doug Railway set compatible with Take Along Thomas and Friends trains?
Melissa and Doug 130 pc railway set says it is compatible with “Thomas,” but there are 3-4 different sizes of Thomas trains series. I bought Lionel Railroad set, but the rails were too wide for Take Along Thomas and Friends trains that we had. I searched for the width of Melissa and Doug railroad but couldn’t find it anywhere. If anyone has Melissa and Doug Railway set, how wide is the rail from one grid to the other? Is it narrow enough to fit the die-cast Thomas trains?

Best answer:

Answer by batraylover
The Melissa and Doug Wooden Railway set is compatible with both Thomas and Brio wooden train systems. The Take Along Thomas and Friends sets are different then the traditional Thomas sets and are not compatible with the Thomas Wooden Railway. The Thomas Wooden Railway is the ONLY Thomas set that is compatible with the Melissa and Doug Wooden Railway set.
