Holiday Train Sets Help?

Monday, February 25th, 2013

Question by Kelly S: Holiday Train Sets Help?
We want to put a train around the bottom of our tree this year but need some help. I bought a train a couple years ago, the large kind, and it was SO loud that it was obnoxious and I took it back. It also played music but there was no way to turn it off. I’m not very wise with this train stuffso could someone send me a link to a train large enough for around the tree that can play music but can be turned off, and isn’t very loud and that looks really nice. I’m willing to pay anything for it. Are Lionel trains loud????

This one sound like it’s nice…and cheaper…but I can’t find out if it’s music is continuous or if it can be shut off

This one is a Lionel…don’t know if it is loud, but it has good ratings…expensive though…don’t know if the music can be turned off..

This one I think looks the best…I am pretty sure the music can be turned off… (it’s $ 400 though)….check it out! This page has some very prestigious clients…so I am imagining it is well worth the money!

What are good christmas sets to collect?

Sunday, December 2nd, 2012

Question by Bri: What are good christmas sets to collect?
I’m thinking about starting to collect a Christmas set. Like something that can go on forever. I’m not looking for “just collect ornaments” I’m looking for, “You could collect the village stuff from (brand name)” Here are some things I like that may spark ideas: Village scenes, musical stuff, animated, lights, horses(and animals in general), and yes I celebrate Christmas.

Best answer:

Answer by Phillipe
First and foremost…do not collect anything that you don’t like yourself. and don’t believe any ad which says, “collector’s limited edition” thinking that it means the item is going to go up in value. What it really means is that the company will make as much of the product as it has sales for.

Once you start collecting horses, you will wind up with horseshoes, rodeo ropes and saddles…You will also be expected to be able to ride one.

collecting snow globes just means a lot of dust collectors

nativity sets will start to take up too much room after a while.

angels will make you look like a religious nut to visitors

My own favorite is novelty ties. ( I have 40 of them ) and can wear them year round. You could specialize in just Christmas ones…but the musical ones get to be a pain…same tune.

A model railroad!! Diversity and class. You can get the village scene, little horses, and build scenery..

How much do Lionel train sets sell for?

Wednesday, October 10th, 2012

Question by My baby boy Westley is here 🙂: How much do Lionel train sets sell for?
I recently got a Lionel train set in an auction and just trying to find out its worth (and trying to put it together, seeing as this is the first train set I’ve purchased ever!) It has a two knob transformer, tracks stamped Lionel, the engine has the # 2018 written on the side. They are black and heavy. Under the engine it says “Made in the United States of America, Lionel 027, The Lionel Corporation , N.Y. It has the coal cart behind it, and 3 passenger carts stamped Lionel. It has the clip that goes under the track and the wiring.

Looking into Lionel train sets…?

Friday, August 10th, 2012

Question by Lubers25: Looking into Lionel train sets…?
Growing up, my family had an old, old set of Lionel Trains and one of my favorite things Christmas morning was waking up to find out that Santa had setup the trains along with the tree and presents. I am looking to do the same thing for my son but I am starting from scratch as my parents still have and use the set I grew up with. I know very little outside of assembly. My search results have come up with plenty of options which leaves me with a few questions.

1) Is Lionel still a quality product?
2) Would any of the other options out there be a better choice?
3) Do I want to go with O guage, O-27, Fast-Track or something else?

I am looking for a set that will last as well as something I can build on if my son continues his interest in trains. I would appreciate any input anyone has on the subject.

Best answer:

Answer by Kimmy (QOP)
Ok Lubers , One of my best friends is a train buff. She says Lionel is still quality. Though nothing really compares to the older models . They are still the king when it comes to trains .The O gauge is the true standard according to her . They are all buildable . If you have the room to do it and the know how . Good luck with that . I can always ak her more if you have any other questions
