Looking for a phrase for my resume to describe my period of modeling?

Friday, December 30th, 2011

Question by layhoma2004: Looking for a phrase for my resume to describe my period of modeling?
When you have a behind desk job in a firm, you can write about it on your next resume for job hunting. But let’s say I have been a model for several years and wanted to apply for a white collar job. My years of experiences as a model can be described as ” on the job training ” or ” PR- like work”. What is the best description I can use to write on my resume in applying for a business job. A short and brief phrase.

Just so you cant get caught out I’d probably put –

“AGENCY NAME
Modelling/PR
List of duties: liaising with other agencies, co-workers and companies in order to maintain interest and professional relationships. Organisation of product portfolio. Researching companies and company representation. Etc.”

Maybe not an answer you were looking for and you could tweak it to suit you but it’s better to be honest rather than caught out and blurting out “I was just a model!” at an interview if they ask you what sort of PR you did.
—————-
Also something like this will lead their questions for you – “give us an example of your portfolio organising?”
Response: “After researching the company I was hired for, it was both the photographers choice as well as my own to decide which pictures were a) suited to the client and b) would encourage more work at a later stage.”

To be honest, as long as you tell them you want experience in a more practical and permanent line of work and can explain why then they probably won’t pay much attention to past roles unless it’s a highly qualified and/or demanding role.

Best of luck.

How can i spice up an acting/modeling resume for a beginner with no experience ?

Question by ~JeSsIcA~: How can i spice up an acting/modeling resume for a beginner with no experience ?
My little sister is getting into acting/modeling and i am helping her. The problem is for experience and training she has none at all. Shes never been in school plays or anything like that and shes never had any kind of training what so ever. So what should i do? I want to be honest. I know its going to look bad just blank in those areas “experience and training”. I am planning on getting her experience and training but right now i need to get this resume together because she want to audition for something coming up very soon. Anyone had the same problem? Anyone know of some kind of solution? Thanks.
None of you helped what so ever especially anne! Anne you say your auditioning for New Moon well then you yourself should know that they are seeking new talent regardless of experience or training and on this website they actual give you a sample resume for begginers that want to audition sooooo? Yes begginers do need resumes! You dont have any clue what you are talking about neither of you do! Also if you look at this website thats promoting casting for New Moon, at the bottom of the sample resume it says: “That is it you see, if a casting director really REALLY likes your photo and your look, they will call you in. Regardless of experience” It may not be typical but people can get jobs regardless of experience! Neither of you actually answered my question you just gave me your opinionated advice! So i guess i should make myself more clear and ask the question in a different way. In the areas “experience and training” of a begginers resume instead of “none” What can i put?
In other words whats a more appealing way of saying “none” and that this person is in the process of getting training and experience!

Sample resume for begginers!

And yes i know they probably dont care that a person is in the process of getting training and experience but my whole point is i dont want to write the word “none” in those areas or leave them blank i want to put something down!

Then your sister is not ready for a resume and auditions would be a waste of everyone’s time. Get her into classes somewhere first and go from there.

Could you help me re-word something on my resume, please?

Question by Babies ♥: Could you help me re-word something on my resume, please?
I don’t have a talent in putting professional words together. So, could you help me out?

It’s just the part where I say what I’ve done with that paticular job….

1. (at a furniture store, i interned by helping move furniture, lamps, tables, and different things around to accent the different sets)
“Assisted adviser by placing appropriate accents within showroom.”
– I dont think that sounds professional enough.

2. (I worked as a receptionist, and I think this carrys on, but I would like a lot of detail in it)
“Assisting patients, answering/directing phone calls, operate fax, copier, and scanner. Took messages, sending/making memos, dealt with patient files and creating labels.”

3. (I worked at aeropostale…. enough said)
“Provide quick, available, and friendly customer service skills, register trained, stocking floor, and floor recovery.”

Thank you for helping! 10 points best answer =)

1. You might want to add the word “staged” or “staging” to your description somewhere. I believe that is the term used for arranging furnishings and accessories in a manner that accentuates the product.

2. Try to keep the same verb form throughout your description. Use either verbs in the past tense “ed” or “ing” but try to avoid combining them. For instance, “assisted patients, answered/directed phone calls, operated various office equipment, maintained patient files and labeling systems.

3. Same thing: “provided prompt and courteous customer service, operated cash register, stocked the floor…”

Modeling is not “on the job training”. It’s not “PR like work”.

Modeling is modeling and if that’s what you did, you shouldn’t want to “spin” it as anything else. Put it like this:

XYZ Modeling Agency April 2006 – May 2007
Worked as a fashion model on runways and in print ads.
Met schedules and deadlines
Came prepared for each job as needed. i.e. bringing makeup, etc.
Projected the look and brand of each job in a professional manner
