Saturday, March 2nd, 2013

This is a Lionel Train Layout, in my basement. It has two main lines on level one, with two sidings. It has two customized elevated lines, with one siding per elevated line. Since I am in Michigan, my main road name is, Detroit & Mackinac Railway. As a kid I used to watch these trains go through East Tawas, Michigan.

Trains and Rails – A West Coast Experience – Cheddington to Tamworth

Sunday, June 17th, 2012

The West Coast mainline has for years always attracted railway enthusiasts to its stations and line side locations. With its 401 mile route from London’s Euston Terminal Station to Glasgow Central in Scotland all manner of freight and passenger traffic can be seen and photographed on this ever changing premiere line to the North. Filmed over a three year period from 2000 to 2003, we visit no less than 9 locations – all are displayed with details. In 2003 we see Virgin’s newly introduced Class 390 Pendolino 390014 (City of Manchester) working a minimal Manchester Piccadilly to Euston service together with the celebrated Class 86 and 87 and not forgetting the venerable Class 43 or better known HST125s – as usual Virgin Trains put on a sterling show. Also in this program we take an extensive look at the freight scene which has always been the life blood of our railways, classes of freight locomotives, both electric and diesel motive power can be seen on this line – they include 37,47,57,66, 86, 90 and 92.

How do electric rails work?

Saturday, October 8th, 2011

Question by John S: How do electric rails work?
I’ve looked online but all its given me is the history of electric trains. I just want how something is propelled using electricity and a wire.

Best answer:

Answer by WaMSie
What sort of detail do you want? The rails that the train runs on provides one side of an electric circuit, a third rail or overhead lines provide the other side. The electricity is used to change a battery and run electric motors that drive the train.
