Question by Das S: What is a good hobby/ project to keep your mind working?
I’m an academic. I have always enjoyed learning and keeping my mind very busy. Now I am unemployed, and the inactivity is killing me!

What is a good hobby or project that requires a lot of thinking?

I just want a suggestion or two on what I could do to fill my time. Something like a project, that will take a bit of time or whatever to create. Open to any suggestions, so fire away please!

There are many things depending on your age and if you have kids and stuff.

If you have kids you could look on the internet for cute craft projects to do with your kids.

You could always try to make something out of wood like a bird a bird house or a spice rack.

Another idea is you could learn a new language or a new skill like juggling.

hope this helps.

The Blues Project – Two Trains Running – Live 1981

Monday, July 16th, 2012

THE BLUES PROJECT -LIVE INTERNATIONAL CASINO,NYC MARCH 17,1981 One of the first album-oriented, “underground” groups in the United States, the Blues Project offered an electric brew of rock, blues, folk, pop, and even some jazz, classical, and psychedelia during their brief heyday in the mid-’60s. It’s not quite accurate to categorize them as a blues-rock group, although they did plenty of that kind of material; they were more like a Jewish-American equivalent to British bands like the Yardbirds, who used a blues and R&B base to explore any music that interested them. Erratic songwriting talent and a lack of a truly outstanding vocalist prevented them from rising to the front line of ’60s bands, but they recorded plenty of interesting material over the course of their first three albums, before the departure of their most creative members took its toll. The Blues Project was formed in Greenwich Village in the mid-’60s by guitarist Danny Kalb (who had played sessions for various Elektra folk and folk-rock albums), Steve Katz (a guitarist with Elektra’s Even Dozen Jug Band), flutist/bassist Andy Kulberg, drummer Roy Blumenfeld, and singer Tommy Flanders. Al Kooper, in his early twenties a seasoned vet of rock sessions, joined after sitting in on the band’s Columbia Records audition, although they ended up signing to Verve, an MGM subsidiary. Early member Artie Traum (guitar) dropped out during early rehearsals; Flanders would leave after their first LP, Live at the Cafe Au

my secret project

Only a few select folks on Flickr get to see this….must check it out in the Original Size.

No, this is not a drawing of a green letter "J" on a gray background, but it’s a 3D drawing of an HO scale model railraod I’m thinking of building.

If follows no particular prototype, but is kind of a generalized depiction of railroading in Illinois during the late 50’s and early 60’s.

Here’s some geek info:

The Dogbone Central
HO Scale model train layout
18′ x 9′

All track is Peco code 75 finescale, but will most likely end up being code 70 handlaid.

The control system will most likely be the "Easy DCC" system from CVP.

All the switches will be thrown manually….no electric motors…to keep costs and maintenance down to a minimum.

Drawing was done in 2D using the RRTrack software program, then rendered into 3D…which you see here.

Trains will be mostly HO scale Santa Fe first generation diesels, and some select early 2nd generation units as well. But there may be an occasional Milwaukee Road train or two, even the Hiawatha might show up. : )

And an occassional New York Central train might show up too, in tribute to the ATSF/NYC run-throughs that came out of Streator, Illinois.

HO Scale Donner Summit Model Railroad Project

Saturday, March 19th, 2011

This clip is of the 15′ x 10′ HO Scale Donner Summit layout that I’m building for a valued customer in California. This is the first train to run around the layout since I completed the top deck (visible portion) track. The hidden staging and staging ramp trackwork were done first. Hope you enjoy the video. More of this layout’s construction from the beginning and my other projects – both in the works and completed can be seen on my website at www.thesolutionfarm.com. Thanks for looking! Mark
