Sunday, March 10th, 2013

High speed train crash between my LEGO 9V train ICE 3 and Eurostar models and the innocent little Christmas train… layout features a double track loop of long curves made from straight track and two level crossings (the source of much entertainment) with the Christmas train’s little loop. Enjoy!

R1071 Eurostar Train Set

Sunday, October 23rd, 2011

Nothing can beat the performance and sheer awesome elegance of the 300kph Eurostar train as it cuts through the Kent countryside heading for the Channel Tunnel and then on from there to Paris or Brussels. The stunning Hornby train set features a Power driving unit, dummy driving unit and two passenger saloons. The models include flush glazing, detailed roof panels and simulated pantographs. The track circuit sits easily on the 1800 x 1200mm (6 x 4) TrakMat and by adding Hornby Track Packs and Accessories Packs can soon be developed into a very effective model railway layout.

Hornby Eurostar Train Set “THE BEGINNING !!!” ( R1071 ) Class 393 Review & Run

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

A review and run of the Hornby Eurostar Train Set Class 393 DCC Ready &Fitted reference R1071. This was the beginning of model railways for me and it should benefit anyone thinking of buying this still available and popular train set. It is an excellent introduction but beware !!! It could inspire a Mammoth growth similar to mine because you get bitten by the “controlling your own train” bug big time! However, you will not regret it. If you ask my opinion about whether or not to buy this set, I can only answer YES get out your (or your parents) wallet and save enough for the track and building extension packs by Hornby.

Regional ECML Eurostar
electric train sets

During some of my ‘lost’ years I would take my lunch at Hitchin Station car-park just to ‘watch the trains go by’ and take the odd photograph. Here is Eurostar Regional set headed by 3301 passing Hitchin southbound on what looks like a crisp late autumnal day in 1996. This is a full 16/18 car set so would expect it is a trial as the proposed regional sets were in 9’s. I must admit not to have taken a lot of interest in Eurostar but I believe that if the Regional Services ever did get going they were short lived and eventually killed off by the coincidental advent of the low-cost airlines. Any more info would be appreciated.

The car park has some special memories though. A four-up pristine 47 convoy was one, but sadly unphotographed.
