Mountains to the Adriatic 09 – Part 1: Beograd – Bioce, July 4 – 7

Sunday, February 10th, 2013

Start of a great week long trip to Crna Gora (Montenegro) and Dalmatia (coastal region of Croatia). Arriving at Belgrade by D 341 from Vienna, watching express trains at Belgrade (sometimes I cranked up the speed a little, otherwise you could fall asleep ;-)), including one of the last grey 461s and coaches from at least 10 different countries. For the spectacular trip Beograd – Podgorica please see one of my first YouTube videos: “The Beograd – Bar Line”. Bioce is located between Podgorica and Mala Rijeka bridge at the mountainside of Mala Rijeka valley, on the other side of which the line can be seen again. Night trains and daytime express trains coming up and down the line, including one freight and a class 461 double.

The Beograd – Bar Line

Tuesday, May 29th, 2012

A trip along one of the most fascinating railroad lines in Europe. Built only in the 1970s it connects Belgrade in Serbia with the Montenegrinian cities of Podgorica and Bar at the Adriatic coast. It already is very scenic at the Bosnian border with numerous tunnels and tall bridges, but as the border to Montenegro is crossed it gets downright spectacular. Sometimes you are that far above the valley ground, some people say you think you are flying. The whole trip culminates in the crossing of the tallest railroad bridge in the world (?), Mala Rijeka Bridge before the line descend towards the plains of Podgorica and Lake Shkoder. The last part of the video shows a visit to Mala Rijeka bridge on the next day.
