Teaching puppy about electric fence around horse pasture?

Saturday, February 23rd, 2013

Question by adl1217: Teaching puppy about electric fence around horse pasture?
I have horses that are in a pasture with an electric fence. Horses learn by experience as puppy will eventually too, but I would like to minimize the shock as she is only 3 mos old. I have had the fence off but the snow is almost gone and the time is coming to put it back on. Any suggestions?

They’re high voltage, low amperage. He’ll figure it out. Only takes once. It did for mine.

A Tour Around the O-Gauge Train Layout of ToyTrains1 in True HD 1080p

Saturday, February 9th, 2013

I often get requests from people who want to see more of my main layout than they normally get to see in my videos that showcase my locomotives and trains, though some of those do show large areas of the layout. Well, what better way to see the layout than hop on the train and go for a ride! 🙂 In this True HD 1080p video, you’re in a car behind the locomotive, an MTH Premier Great Northern S-2 Northern-type (4-8-4) steamer as it goes for a spin around the layout. Since this is in the basement, you get to see lots of concrete blocks 🙂 but it gives some idea of what the layout looks like all the way around. Please visit my web site — www.toytrains1.com — for lots more videos and photos of both real and model trains.

a model electric train makes one complete pass around a circular track every 15 seconds….?

Wednesday, October 31st, 2012

Question by moniquew93: a model electric train makes one complete pass around a circular track every 15 seconds….?
a model electric train makes one complete pass around a circular track every 15 seconds. the train’s motor has a resistance of 6.0ohm and is connected to a 70.0V source. How much energy will the train use in 12 complete passes around the track?

Best answer:

Answer by kirchwey
This question cannot be answered. Model-train motors don’t draw the huge wattage implied by the voltage and resistance, which = V^2/R = 816.67 W. At running speed the motor would generate a back EMF which would substantially reduce the actual voltage across the internal resistance. See the ref.
EDIT: The input data are not necessarily crazy, just incomplete. What’s crazy is the assumption that the given V is applied across the given R continuously; it actually would only happen momentarily at startup.

What do you think? Answer below!

Ride around my MTH O scale train layout (part 2)

Wednesday, September 5th, 2012

Mounted a camera to the front of one of my trains and ran it around all the loops. The part of the vid thats dark is when the train is under the layout (sorry for no lighting). It should give you a good idea of my track layout. Enjoy!!!

Once around. An engineer’s view of my railroad.

One circuit of the mainline plus once around the small loop also. The sound is crappy due to stuff sticking to the wheels of the camera car. Maybe plastic would be better?
