I still need an answer to my previous Matchbox question?

Tuesday, June 26th, 2012

Question by willrupe: I still need an answer to my previous Matchbox question?
I recently bought a Matchbox item at a local dollar store. I want to buy an additional eleven identical contemporary red farm tractors to serve as flat car loads for my HO scale model trains. Matchbox is unable to help me achieve this goal. Going from store to store and buying one at a time is not a viable option either. The question remains “How do I buy multiple pieces of an identical item at one time?” I would like the price to remain very near the level marked on the front of the original packaging. Yours respectfully, William Rupert willrupe@yahoo.com

How do you answer this math problem?

Friday, April 13th, 2012

Question by Priscilla Mariska: How do you answer this math problem?
Model trains are scaled-down replicas of real trains that come in a variety of sizes, called scales. One of the most popular-sized models is called the HO. Every dimension of the HO model measures 1/87 that of a real engine. The HO model of a modern diesel locomotive is about 8 inches long. About how many feet long is the real locomotive?

If you can’t hit the note right just practice the line in different notes til you get it right and make it your own, it’s not improvising that way either.

I know NOTHING about electric trains. Please answer if you can……?

Question by J: I know NOTHING about electric trains. Please answer if you can……?
I want to buy this electric train set for my daughters room and have it mounted up high out of reach.
First: What does “minimum curve size O-27” mean? Does it mean how tight a curve the train can make?
Second: How can/should I go about mounting the track to the wall? I’ve seen this in someone’s house but I don’t know the person to even ask.

Answer by HappyDog
0-27 is a typical track size for the size of train you’d see in a picture under the tree in 1950 — Lionel. Big and heavy. And yes, it indicates the tightest curve. Smaller train scales are HO and N and the typical bigger size is called Standard.

To mount the track you need a very level surface or it will constantly be falling off. So you’d need to build a narrow shelf first. If your children are small you may want to consider HO guage. The trains are light, inexpensive and cute, and when they fall off (and they will) they won’t do much damage. An O-27 guage train falling off the wall could knock out a five year old! Good luck!

If you’re a model railroader, please answer this question..?

Question by Mike M.: If you’re a model railroader, please answer this question..?
What’s the best way to remove Bachmann EZ track from the pre-molded raodbed?

DISCLAIMER:This question should not in any way what-so-ever be misinterpreted as chatting.
Railbuff: Yes, the NMRA has worked to get model railroad manufacterers to conform so that everything would be inter-changeable, but each makers’ pre-molded roadbed STILL won’t work with one another. I’d like to know what’s up with that! >:(

Answer by railbuff
Maybe the best thing to do is replace the track with a piece of Atlas or Peco snap-track or flex track. The Bachmann stuff is pretty firmly on, and getting it off would likely put the track out if gauge, if it didn’t break it. All these tracks are interchangeable – you will need rail-joiners for the new track (If i remember the rail-joiners are already on the Bachmann stuff. They wil fit all tracks of the same size. I believe the Bachmann comes as code 100 track; important to match the codes on the new track (code 100 is most common)
The National Model Railroad Association worked for years to get manufacturers to conform to standards that make their equipment interchangeable with other companies’ products.
