Warley National Model Railway Exhibition 2012 HD

This year’s video footage of the event which is held yearly at the Birmingham NEC in Hall 5 and my second video in HD. Overall the event was great but I would have liked to have seen more modern image layouts in OO gauge. Although for those of you that like steam trains, there was plenty of layouts that are based in the steam era. Also that impressive N gauge Dutch layout was not present this year which is a shame as I do like that layout. However there was an impressive Irish tram layout set in “O’Connell Street” in Dublin that has amazing amount of detail and funny enough I walked down the real street in October 2011, but thats another story. There is an interesting Italian layout in HO scale that I filmed which is also one of my favourites that I saw there as well which is new to my library of Warley MRE videos. I also filmed some American, Dutch some additional British Layouts in N and HO scale as well. I apologise for the jolts in this video in some parts as a couple of anoraks from the “Backpack Brigade” rammed my arm when I was filming so I hope that it doesn’t spoil the view too much as I use the barriers to rest my arm on as a “tripod” as I believe normal tripods are not allowed at the event due to Health and Safety. Personally I think large backpacks should be banned from the hall as they cause obstructions. That aside, it was a great day and I enjoyed a chat with fellow enthusiasts as well as a bit of banter with the exhibitors. I have left the ratings open on

Portsmouth Direct Line with Class 450 for Railworks 3: Train Simulator 2012

The Portsmouth Direct Line Expansion Pack is a modern-image recreation of the line from Woking to Portsmouth Harbour via Guildford, and comes complete with the class 450 EMU. A busy commuter route, the Portsmouth Direct Line connects the south coast with London Waterloo, collecting from stations across Hampshire and Surrey on the way. The Class 450 EMU (electric multiple unit) was designed for exactly this type of operation and makes light work of the line, even during the busy morning and evening rush hours when trains are often full and the timetable is tight. With accurate recreations of the line and all its features, including the stations and line-side buildings, the Portsmouth Direct Line Expansion Pack is a must for modern-image rail fans. Available this Friday 22 April.

Trains on the Norfolk Southern Harrisburg Line March 2012

Gorgeous sunny weather and warm temperatures made for exciting catches in March. Witness a variety of train types, locomotives, and locations, providing you with the scenery of the Lebanon Valley and western Berks County as seen from popular and obscure railfanning locations, including farming activities occuring in the background. The angle of spring equinox sun provides some of the best lighting available throughout the year, which accentuates the prime action on this busy mainline. This is a feature you won’t want to miss! 3/13/12 On a beautiful sunny afternoon, 19G rounds the curve near MP 74 with a MBTA GP40MC in tow headed for the Juniata shops. 2012 Volvo – SARTRE Road trains, tests with several vehicles in high speed

Volvo Car Corporation part of successful road train test – SARTRE project enters final phase The SARTRE project (Safe Road Trains for the Environment) – with Volvo Car Corporation as the only participating car manufacturer – has successfully completed the first test demonstrations of a multiple vehicle platoon. The test fleet included a lead truck followed by three cars driven entirely autonomously at speeds of up to 90 km/h – with no more than 6 metres gap between the vehicles. “The aim is for the entire road train to be completed in autumn 2012. By then we will have four vehicles after one lead vehicle driving at 90 km/h,” says Erik Coelingh, technical project manager at the Volvo Car Corporation. The SARTRE project is being driven by seven European partners and is the only one of its kind to focus on the development of technology that can be implemented on conventional highways in which platooned traffic operates in a mixed environment with other road users. Stakeholder dialogue Recognizing that the challenge of implementing road train technology on Europe’s highways is not solely a technical matter, SARTRE also includes a major study to identify what infrastructure changes will be needed for vehicle platooning to become a reality. A number of stakeholder discussions will therefore be held. The participants in the first discussion included technical experts, politicians, legislators and traffic safety researchers. At the workshop a number of non-technical challenges
