Your best bet is too call a local train hobby store. The national train stores can’t help you, but a local one could. Plus try contacting a local train hobby club! Clubs are a great source for info from train hobby enthusiasts.

That is a very good but difficult question to answer.

This isn’t the kind of question than can be answered well w/o someone being able to actual examine the set.

A lot depends on the condition of the set, is with the original box (and what condition is the box in). Then you have the issue of how many were made and how many are still out there. The more available means the less someone would be willing to pay for it.

My suggestion is that you check your area (look in hone book or online) for stores that sell model railroad trains and supplies and see if they can provide any information.
Check magazines such as “Model Railroader” for model railroad dealers and shows in your area. If you go to a dealer or show make sure you bring the set with you so that it can be examined.

You can also look at on line auction sites like ebay to see if any sets are being offered and how much people are paying.

THIS IS MY POSTWAR LIONEL SCOUT O GAUGE TRAIN SET OUTFIT #1112 MADE IN 1948 IT COMES WITH A #1101 SCOUT STEAM ENGINE WITH A 3 POSITION E-UNIT POWERED BY A LIONEL STANDARD ARMATURE TYPE MOTOR A #1001T LIONEL SCOUT TENDER AND PULLS FOUR FREIGHT RAIL CARS #1004 #1002 #1005 #1007 THIS SET IS ONE OF TWO POSTWAR TRAIN SETS I GOT FROM ONE SELLER THIS 1948 #1101 SCOUT SET AND MY 1956 2018 PRAIRIE FREIGHT SET WERE MY FIRST POSTWAR LIONEL TRAIN SETS TO STARTED IN MY COLLECTION 1948 WAS VERY FIRST YEAR FOR THE LIONEL SCOUT TRAIN SETS ON THE MARKET THERE WERE TWO DIFFRENT 2-4-2 SCOUT ENGINES ONE WAS A #1101 AND THE OTHER WAS A #1001 SCOUT ENGINE THE #1101 ENGINE IS A LITTLE BIT HARDER ONE TO FIND OVER THE MORE COMMON #1001 SCOUT ENGINES THE SCOUT SETS CAME WITH A DIFFRENT TYPE OF CUPLERS AND THE ONLY THING THAT WAS AN ISSUE WITH COLLECTORS OR PEPOLE THAT HAD ONE OF THESE SETS COULDNT USE THERE OTHER POSTWAR RAIL CARS WITH THIS TYPE OF SCOUT CUPLERS SET AND THERE WASNT REALY ANY ADDON SCOUT TYPE RAILCARS MADE FOR THEM THAT I KNOW OF SO WHAT YOU GOT IN THE SCOUT SET WAS PRETTY MUCH IT THEY SAY THEY COULDNT PULL MORE THEN 3 OR 4 RAIL CARS ANYWAY SO THAT MAY OF BEEN WHY THEY DIDNT MAKE ADDONS BUT LATER ON LIONEL DID HAVE A CUPLER KIT SO YOU COULD GIVE YOUR SCOUT CARS KUCKLE CUPLERS BUT FROM WHAT I CAN SEE THE SET PULLS THE TENDER AND ITS FOUR RAIL CARS WITHOUT ANY ISSUES SO IT COULD PULL A ONE TO THREE MORE CARS BEHIND THE ENGINE THE 1101 IS COMPLETELY ALL METAL INSIDE AND OUT SO ITS GOT
