Model Railway Exhibition 2010 Pt 7

The 33rd model railway exhibition by the Mid Essex Model Railway Club on the 18th Sept 2010 at Shenfield High School. Exhibiter 35 is “Flintcombe” by the East Dorset Gang of Four in P4 gauge. “Representing a fictional spur running south west from the S&DJR at Sturminster Newton, with its name derived from the Thomas Hardy novels about 19th Century Devon life – but as it could have been in the late 1930’s. The scenery is our attempt to portray the typical Dorset chalk terrain, with buildings based on S&DJR examples. Track is both C&L flexi & hand built, with signalling & auto uncoupling – modified 3mm Sprat & Winkle – from MSE components.” Exhibiter 36 is “Whitsend Tramway” by Graham Watling in 009 gauge. “This fictitious layout was inspired by the buildings & villages of the North Yorkshire coast. The cottages are mainly built using embossed plastic sheet & also modified kits. The scale is 009 – being 4mm to the Foot on 9mm narrow gauge track representing 2’3″ gauge tramway prototypes. Locos & stock are a mix of modified RTR items & kits. Main traffic consists of passengers to & from the inland town, with fish & light cargo from the harbour. Milk, coal & parcels are carried inwards.” Exhibiter 37 is “Cornard” by Sudbury MRC in 00 gauge. “Set in Great Central territory between 1960 & 1968 although it never actually existed. The layout is based on a cross country single track branch. The goods yard is still busy with commodities for the surrounding area incoming & local
