Model Railway Exhibition 2009 Part 7

The Mid Essex Model Railway Club’s 32nd exhibition held at Shenfield High School, Brentwood Essex. 19th Sept 2009. 34. Haverhill South in 2mm scale by Martin Allen. Terminus of the Colne Valley & Halstead Railway, opened in 1863 but services were always limited as from 1865 most passenger services were diverted to the Great Eastern Railway Haverhill station. The terminus became goods only, & closed completely in 1965. To make the model more interesting the passenger service has survived. Martin hopes to eventually have stock spanning the period 1920 to 1960, but until then it is WW2 ’til closure, with the occasional preservation special as part of the line has been reopened. 35. Milldale in Z gauge by Brian Yallop. Depicting LNER running prior to nationalisation, somewhere in North East England it shows a village setting overlooked by an imposing windmill, hence the name Milldale. A double track mainline encircles the layout for watching the trains go by. With no British outline Z gauge stock or buildings being commercially built, so apart from track & underframes everything has to be scratch built. 36. The Broadway in 2mm scale by Alan Lawrence. Set in the period between the two World Wars, the layout is meant to be a town somewhere in East Anglia. In fact it is based on Ilford Broadway after the 1923 alterations, with lots of modellers licence. The trams are all scratch built from nickel silver & bronze. Mechanisms are also scratch built using Tenshodo gears & power
