Question by Richard H: Do you think its time for Boeing and General Electric to start making dynamic passenger rail trains?
They would probably be very good at it.
Answer by James H
Boeing was in the passenger train business, building the “US Standard Light Rail Vehicle”, which was a MISERABLE failure. They did build a successful series of subway cars for chicago, but were underbid on all other attempts.
Though GE, and for that matter Electro-Motive Diesele, are well known for their locomotives, getting into the passenger car market which is held in a tight grip by Bombardier and Kawasaki would be a nightmare.
