Atlas Santa Fe EMD SD24
Atlas Santa Fe EMD SD24 diesel locomotive in HO scale. These stocky 2,400 hp units, first aquired in ’59, would be the most powerful EMD diesels on the Santa Fe until the advent of the 2,500 hp GP35’s first aquired in 1964.
The Santa Fe rebuilt all 80 of these units into 2,650 hp SD26’s beginning in ’73. By the time they were sold-off or traded in, the Santa Fe got about 35-36 years of useful mainline service from these locomotives.
