The trains may also unite the whole household by getting siblings and oldsters involved in construction on the track system. These trains have become the subject of a revival in recent years, probably because besides the above reasons, model trains are so much fun to play with!

High voltage means low current for the same power. Lower current means less losses in the transmission lines. I am drunk (listening to Led Zepplin very loud) but I think I am right…..

Electric train sets ? top 3 mistakes

Saturday, July 30th, 2011

Electric train sets manufactured by big brand manufacturers such as Lionel and Bachmann are of very high quality and the people that buy them are usually experienced hobbyists. However people still show that there are some mistakes that railroader’s make time and time again. The following is a list of those electric train sets that just need to be corrected.

1.       The first is when the track layout is constructed the gradient of the slopes are too high. When going uphill this is a problem because some power sources will not have a big enough driving forces to send the locomotives up the hill.

2.      The next track layout when building model train sets is the bending of tracks. This can be a problem when the bends are far too tight causing derailment of the model train. This is not only annoying but also can damage your models which can be serious as some of them cost upwards of 0.

3.      Confusing scale and gauge is another popular mistake that people make. Basically scale refers to the size of the model relative to the actual size of the real thing. Whereas the gauge refers to the actual size of the train. The gauge is the most important component because it allows you to choose a train that is of a same standard as the tracks and the surrounding landscape. Ideally you would have all landscape components of a similar gauge but if it is not possible then try to hide this as much as possible.
